Way of the Master Week 7: The Summary of Salvation

Way of the Master Week 7: October 5, 2005 Archive

If Way of the Master Week 6 showed us the foundation—the why behind coming to Christ—then Way of the Master Week 7 was the final piece of the puzzle snapping into place.

As an Evangelism Coach, there’s nothing better than seeing that 'lightbulb moment' happen for a fellow believer.

Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort showed us how the Law (the Ten Commandments) isn't just a list of rules; it's the GPS that leads people to the Cross.

It reminded us how to share the Gospel biblically with someone—not just a quick “Jesus loves you” while we run for the exit.

One of the biggest lessons is that people need to understand the bad news before the Good News makes sense.

Think of it like a doctor: you don’t offer a heart transplant to someone who thinks they just have a cold.

God’s Law acts like a mirror. When someone sees they’ve broken the commandments, they finally get why they need a Savior. That’s not being harsh—it’s being honest.

What the Law Actually Does:

For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are. — Romans 3:20 (NLT)

Then comes the Good News—the Gospel. Jesus paid the debt we couldn’t pay, when He died on the cross and rose again.

The Gospel in One Passage:

Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. — 1 Corinthians 15:3b-4 (NLT)

We can’t earn salvation by being good or attending church more often. It’s a free gift from God.

Our Role vs. God's Role:

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. — Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLT)

It is received by repentance—which starts with a change of mind, then a change of heart.

That causes us to turn from sin and surrender to God, and place our faith in Jesus Christ.

Our role is to share the Gospel message. God does the saving.

Way of the Master Week 7 wasn't about shiny new tactics—it was Kirk and Ray hitting the rewind button.

They reminded us why we use the Law, why the motive matters, and why we can't afford to water down the Gospel just to make people comfortable.

Tri-Lakes Outreach Report — Week 7

Tonight we had 65 people, which was a bit lower than usual. We had a Christian concert going on in our church at Tri-Lakes Center.

Since our church is in the former Mel Tillis theater, we still have some shows in it sometimes.

Apparently, some folks thought the concert meant class was canceled—or maybe they just preferred the music over my evangelism coaching! 😉

We watched the episode, "The Summary of Salvation."

Leann, my wife, taught the class this week and did an awesome job. She gave us a much-needed reality check.

She told everyone:

"We are not teaching this class for entertainment, but here to teach evangelism and get a team together for street witnessing in Branson."

It's easy to show up in a former Mel Tillis theater, watch Kirk and Ray on screen, and check the box for the week.

But collecting information without taking action just turns you into a really well-informed bystander.

But if we’re not actually talking to people about Jesus, we’re just a fan club. We aren't on a field trip; we’re on a mission.

And when we're on a mission, we don't just study the map—we actually cross the border.

My prayer is that we find committed Christians who will head into the historic downtown area and be a witness for Christ.

One Young Man on Fire for the Lost

One young man from our church—Josh, travels all over. He has been taking what he has been learning and using it to witness to just about everyone he encounters.

He is going to introduce the Way of the Master evangelism training to a church in Indianapolis, Indiana next week.

I told him about the Great News Network (GNN), an evangelism training ministry that offers online training and in-person evangelism bootcamps.

It helps believers put into practice using the Law in evangelism, just like Way of the Master teaches.

This is what it's all about—believers who don't just memorize the Ten Commandments and how to do this, but actually use it.

Josh is proof that this training works when you put it into practice.

Pastor Mark: "Stick with the Plan"

Our pastor, Mark Shorey, got up and talked about how much he is enjoying this teaching and how we need to get out and speak to someone about Christ.

He basically said, "Stick with the plan"—referring to the Way of the Master evangelism training.

Pastor Mark is a soul-winner! He's not just cheering from the sidelines; he's out there doing it.

He reminded everyone of our new Sunday School class that we started last week, called "Winning Evangelism."

Since the Foundation Course is only eight weeks, we don't stop there. We also use other Way of the Master episodes in the evangelism Sunday School class.

To go deeper, we used material from the School of Biblical Evangelism. Just a heads up—this is a paid resource through Ray Comfort’s ministry, and I don’t get a dime for mentioning it.

I just point to it because the training is solid and it helped me get my feet under me.

Main Takeaway: Theory vs. The Pavement

In our study of Way of the Master Week 7, we learned that learning the method isn't the goal—using it is.

Way of the Master Week 7 taught us that even the best tools are useless if they stay in the toolbox.

You can watch every episode and memorize every principle. You can know the method inside and out.

But if you never open your mouth to share your faith, it stays theory.

I’ll admit, I made this mistake at first.

I sat through the training and was great at the "theory," but I struggled with overcoming fear in witnessing when it came time to actually open my mouth.

I was so glad when I finally did.

Josh got that. He didn’t just learn it; he used it. The goal isn't a room full of people who know the method—it’s believers in real life who actually share the Gospel.

Leann was right to say it plainly: this training isn’t for entertainment. It’s to equip believers to get out there and reach the lost.

So, here’s the honest question we all have to answer:

Are you learning this to feel informed—or are you committed to reaching the lost?

Call to Action: From Student to Witness

This week, stop treating evangelism like a class to attend and start treating it like a mission you’re already on.

You don’t need to wait until you feel “ready.”

  • You don’t need every objection memorized.
  • You don’t need perfect words.

You just need obedience.

Hand out a gospel tract.

Ask the Good Person Test questions.

Share your testimony. Start a conversation. Do something.

Because the world isn't waiting for you to feel confident—over 150,000 people step into eternity every single day, and most of them aren't ready to meet God.

Stick with the plan. Get out there. And trust that God will use your obedience, even when it’s messy and imperfect.
